During the 2024 RGS-IBG Annual conference, comrades organised the panel “Geographical Responsibility and Scholasticide in Palestine”

The panel brought attention to scholasticide and called geographers to sign >> a BDS pledge << which is still open for signatories.

“One aspect of the genocidal violence perpetrated by Israel in Gaza is what Karma Nabulsi describes as “scholasticide”, meaning the ‘systematic destruction of Palestinian education by Israel’. All 12 universities of Gaza have been physically destroyed; our academic colleagues and their students have been killed, including in targeted attacks; and infrastructures of learning such as schools, libraries, archives, museums and heritage sites have been obliterated.” (excerpt from the pledge document)
